Decent Work for All – Bridging the Economic and the Social (and the Environmental) Dimension of Sustainable Development
Timo Voipio

The paper seeks to suggest possible solutions for the problems of generating decent work in developing countries. The presentation tries to provide a thematic understanding of the problems of employment generation and the structural problems faced by developing countries. It also gives an overview of the numerous initiatives taken by donor agencies to address the issue and traces the contours of the programmes. He suggests three solutions; employment generation as the key objective of macroeconomic policies; focus on production rather than on mere trade; and investing more on people to enable higher risk/higher return activities for higher value addition.
