Foundation
for Agrarian Studies
The Foundation for Agrarian Studies is a charitable
Trust that sponsors and funds multi-disciplinary theoretical
and empirical research on agrarian studies in less-developed
countries. The Foundation invites applications for
financial assistance under the following categories
from Ph.D scholars working in
the field of agrarian studies.
1. Fellowships for scholars
beginning Ph.D research. Fellowships are available
for one year in the first instance, but extendable
depending on performance, for Ph.D scholars. Applicants
are required to submit a short research proposal,
a curriculum vitae and a reference letter (from the
Supervisor if the candidate is already registered
for a Ph.D). If not already registered, applicants
must state the proposed University and Guide.
2. Fellowships for advanced
Ph.D scholars. Fellowships for one year are available
for Ph.D students at an advanced stage of research
to support the completion by the end of a year of
their doctoral research. Applicants are required to
submit a research outline, a curriculum vitae, a report
on progress (signed by the Supervisor) and a reference
letter from their Supervisor.
3. Grants for field-work.
Applications are invited from registered Ph.D scholars
to meet expenses on field-work. Applicants are required
to submit a research proposal, a plan and budget for
field-work, a curriculum vitae and a letter of support
for the application from their Supervisor. The application
should specify other financial support received by
the scholar. Other support does not disqualify a scholar
from receiving a Foundation grant.
4. Grants for research
papers. Applications are invited from Ph.D scholars
at an advanced stage of research for small grants
to assist in writing specific research papers. Applicants
are required to submit a short research proposal,
a budget statement, a curriculum vitae and a letter
of support for the application from their Supervisor.
The Foundation reserves the right to publish the completed
paper of selected applicants in its Working Paper
Series.
5. Grants for publication
of Ph.D theses. Applications are invited for financial
grants to support the publication of recently-completed
Ph.D theses into books. Applicants are required to
submit a book proposal, a curriculum vitae, a budget
proposal, a letter commending the thesis or recommending
publication from at least one referee and a letter
from the Ph.D Supervisor.
Fellowships under (1) and (2) above are open only
to students of economics. Grants under (3), (4) and
(5) are open to students in all social sciences.
