The Post-War Afghan Economy

Over the last year, a strategy to reconstruct and revive the war-ravaged economy of Afghanistan has been put in place with the support and under the influence of international donors. This article examines the reconstruction process to assess its pace, its appropriateness and its sustainability.
Profile of The Afghan Economy
While two decades of war have almost destroyed Afghan agriculture, and allowed illegal sowing of poppy seeds, a concerted effort and adequate investment in the sector can put the country back on route to agricultural development.
   
State of Afghan Agriculture
The widening gap between a Westernized Kabul and an impoverished, under-educated, and powerless countryside does not bode well for Afghanistan.
